A new alternative for the defense industry: ARAX motor technology

The technology, developed under the leadership of Senior Design Engineer İsmail Berber, created a system different from the classic central shaft design that has been used in electric motors for many years.
According to the company’s statement, the ARAX motor aims to provide higher efficiency, lower weight, and a more compact structure thanks to its hybrid axial electromagnetic flange architecture. One of the most notable areas of use of the next-generation ARAX motor developed for military platforms is the defense industry.
According to the development team, the system has the potential to be used in many military platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), armed unmanned aerial vehicles, electric vertical take-off aircraft (EVTOL), naval platforms and ship propulsion systems, as well as torpedo and missile propulsion systems.
Thanks to the new motor architecture, it is anticipated that multi-motor structures used especially in UAV and drone systems can become more compact and platforms can be produced lighter, which may increase operational range and mission duration.
Lighter and more efficient motor
According to technical data, the ARAX motor was designed with a weight of approximately 10 kilograms. This value indicates a lower weight compared to some motors in a similar performance class. It is also stated that thanks to its high torque generation capability and energy efficiency, battery systems used in electric platforms can be significantly lightened. Simulation data indicate that the system could achieve efficiency of over 95 percent and make energy consumption more balanced.
Self-cooling motor structure
The dual stator architecture used in the ARAX motor creates a flow called a “magnetic vortex” inside the motor. This structure helps the motor cool itself while operating. In this way, the need for heavy and complex cooling systems can be reduced. A simpler structure will also offer the advantage of facilitating maintenance processes, especially on military platforms.
Patent application submitted
A patent application for ARAX technology was submitted to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office under the number “TPE 2021/001888”.
It was reported that the project, which has an architecture different from existing motor systems in the world and whose development work is ongoing, is currently at TRL 4 technology readiness level, and that preliminary prototype and simulation studies have been completed.
Talks for mass production continue
SEMSİS officials stated that the ARAX motor was developed with equity capital and that efforts are ongoing with investors and industrial partnerships for mass production. The technology could find wide areas of use, primarily in the defense industry as well as in the aviation, automotive, and energy sectors.
