Frieden: Europe debates, negotiates and compromises
Luxembourg, February 8 (Hibya) – Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden, speaking at the Harvard Kennedy School, said that a structural rupture is occurring in transatlantic relations and highlighted the importance of Europe’s multilateral approach.
Prime Minister Frieden, in his speech at the Harvard Kennedy School, shared assessments on Europe’s political approach and recent developments in transatlantic relations.
Stating that Europe does not claim perfection, Frieden said: “Europe debates, negotiates and compromises. This process may at times appear slow, but behind it lies a collective political culture that is cautious about simple solutions and mindful of their consequences.”
Addressing changes in transatlantic relations, Frieden said that these relations are currently facing a structural rupture.
Emphasizing that he does not see this situation as the end of Europe, Frieden said he views the current process as an opportunity for Europe.
Noting that the world is entering a new period in which rules are being questioned, Frieden underlined that Europe can offer a model based on multilateral cooperation grounded in the rule of law, institutions and accountability.
