New York, March 25 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized in a statement marking the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Transatlantic Slave Trade that slavery is a crime against humanity.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres evaluated the impacts of the transatlantic slave trade and its legacy today.
Guterres stated that the slave trade deeply shook social structures, saying: "The transatlantic slave trade was a crime against humanity that struck at the very essence of humanity, tore families apart, and devastated communities."
Emphasizing the need to stand against the ideologies underlying this crime, Guterres said:
"Let us reject the false narrative of racial differences and fully commit to human rights, equality, and the inherent dignity of every human being."
