Israel announces expansion of military operations in Gaza
Stockholm, April 2 (Hibya) – Following overnight large-scale attacks in the southern Gaza Strip, the IDF deployed another division to the area, and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the army is expanding its assault on Hamas.
Palestinian media reported a major wave of attacks in Rafah and Khan Younis overnight, and stated this morning that troops were advancing toward Rafah.
On Monday, the IDF issued an evacuation warning for the entire Rafah area and a large stretch of land between Rafah and Khan Younis, where no previous ground operations had taken place.
Last month, the IDF announced that the 36th Division had been sent to the Southern Command in preparation for operations in Gaza. The division’s forces entered southern Gaza early this morning as part of the expanded assault on Hamas.
Katz claimed that the troops would act “to clear terrorists and infrastructure and seize extensive territories that will be added to Israel’s security zones.”
