Macron: Freedom of worship for all religions must be guaranteed in Jerusalem
Paris, March 29 (Hibya) - French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the obstruction of the Jerusalem Latin Patriarch and Christian clergy from conducting their services at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
French President Emmanuel Macron made a statement regarding the intervention in the Sunday Mass celebrations before Easter in Jerusalem.
Reacting to the decision of the Israeli police, Macron emphasized that religious freedoms must be protected.
Stating that he stands in solidarity with the Jerusalem Latin Patriarch and the faithful, Macron said: "I offer my full support to the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and to the Christians of the Holy Land who were prevented from celebrating the Sunday Mass before Easter at the Holy Sepulchre. I condemn this decision of the Israeli police."
Drawing attention to the risks posed by the current situation in Jerusalem in terms of international law and freedom of belief, Macron made the following assessment:
"This decision contributes to a worrying increase in violations concerning the status of the holy sites in Jerusalem. Freedom of worship for all religions must be guaranteed in Jerusalem."
