Meloni: To belittle the Republic Day parade is to misunderstand history
Rome, June 2 (Hibya) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reacted to calls for the abolition of the June 2 parade, emphasizing the importance of Republic Day for the state and national identity.
Italian Prime Minister Meloni made a statement in response to certain comments regarding the June 2 Republic Day parade.
Criticizing views that the parade should be abolished, Meloni said, “Such statements are not only shameful, but also inappropriate toward the countless uniformed men and women who serve Italy every day with discipline, honor, and a spirit of sacrifice.”
Referring to the significance of Republic Day and the parade, Meloni stated, “I believe that Republic Day and the parade do not merely celebrate an institutional anniversary; they celebrate the identity of the Nation, the meaning of the State, and the value of those who defend, represent, and honor that State.”
Meloni continued, “To belittle all of this from institutional positions means not understanding anything about our history, the Republic, and the duty owed to it.”
