Qatar participated in the Second International Conference on the Return of Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians and Prisoners of War. Qatar was represented at the conference, held in Toronto, Canada, on September 28-29, by Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad.

In its statement at the conference, Qatar said it supports international efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis and stressed that the crisis can only be resolved through dialogue and mediation.

The statement said that since 2023, Qatar, in coordination with the Ukrainian and Russian sides, has contributed to more than 14 humanitarian operations aimed at returning children separated from their families as a result of the conflict, and that these efforts have reunited 87 Ukrainian children with their families.

Qatar also stated that in 2023 it provided $100 million in support for humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and $20 million for Ukraine’s grain export initiative. The statement added that, as part of child protection and education projects, a $3.5 million initiative for safe shelters, schools and kindergartens was supported, while 50 university scholarships were provided to Ukrainian students.
