According to WHO's post, 911 health workers and patients were killed in attacks on health care across 19 countries and territories during 2026. Around 1,486 people were injured in the attacks.
WHO drew attention to the fact that health workers often continue carrying out their duties while putting their own safety second. The statement noted that the loss of health workers leaves behind grieving families and communities, as well as fragile health systems.
In a post marking World Humanitarian Day, WHO called for an end to attacks on health care, saying, “Health is never a target. Stop attacks on health care.”
