Belgium’s message on International Mine Awareness Day
Brussels, April 4 (Hibya) - The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that innocent civilians fall victim to landmines every year and emphasized the importance of efforts carried out under the Ottawa Convention.
The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the occasion of April 4, International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action. The ministry recalled that innocent civilians lose their lives or are injured due to landmines during and after armed conflicts.
The statement emphasized that thanks to the Ottawa Convention, millions of mines have been destroyed and countless lives have been saved.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot and the Special Representative of the Ottawa Convention, Princess Astrid, expressed their concerns regarding mine awareness and assistance efforts.
