Chinese President Xi Jinping met today with US President Donald Trump, who is visiting China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During the meeting, Xi Jinping stated that the world has reached a new crossroads at a time when change and conflict are intertwined.

Xi said, “Can China and the United States overcome the ‘Thucydides Trap’ and create a new model for relations between major powers? Can they work together to overcome global challenges and bring greater stability to the world? Can they create a bright future for bilateral relations by focusing on the well-being of the two peoples and the future of humanity? These are the questions that leaders of major powers must answer together for our era.”

Emphasizing that the common interests between China and the United States are greater than their disagreements, Xi stated that the achievements of the two countries are opportunities for one another and that stable China-US relations benefit the world.
