Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shibani met with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

During the meeting, it was stated that cooperation between the Syrian Arab Republic and the International Atomic Energy Agency had reached a historic stage. In this context, the visit by Grossi and a delegation of agency inspectors to a facility in the Deir ez-Zor region and to another site linked to nuclear materials identified by the Syrian government was discussed.

The parties also emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation. During the meeting, it was stated that Syria's sovereign and legal right to use nuclear energy for civilian and peaceful purposes should be guaranteed.

The parties also agreed to strengthen cooperation in order to resolve the pending issues before the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency as soon as possible.
