Dutch Prime Minister Jetten: We must never forget our history of slavery
Amsterdam, May 7 (Hibya) - Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten made a statement regarding the history of slavery and the lasting effects of the colonial past.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, together with Pieter Heerma and Tom Berendsen, met with representatives of relevant institutions to commemorate the history of slavery and raise public awareness.
Emphasizing the importance of confronting the past, Jetten said, “We must never forget our history of slavery. In fact, actively raising public awareness about the colonial and slavery past and its lasting effects is a priority of this cabinet.”
Highlighting the need for social cooperation, Prime Minister Jetten stated, “However, creating social momentum is not something that can be done alone. Therefore, together with Pieter Heerma and Tom Berendsen, I met today with three organizations dedicated to this cause.”
Emphasizing unity, Jetten added, “To work toward a future we can build together. The Slavery Past Remembrance Committee, the National Institute for Dutch Slavery History and Heritage, and the National Slavery Museum are also cooperating in the mission of remembrance, understanding, transmission, and healing.”
