EU leaders on Druzhba pipeline: Energy security is a priority
Brussels, March 17 (Hibya) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa announced that following Russia’s attacks on the Druzhba pipeline, they are cooperating with Ukraine to restore oil flows to Hungary and Slovakia.
According to the joint statement by European Commission President von der Leyen and European Council President Costa, Russia’s attacks on the Druzhba pipeline on January 27 led to the suspension of oil flows to Hungary and Slovakia. EU leaders held comprehensive consultations with member states and Ukraine on the matter.
The EU offered technical support and financing to Ukraine; Ukraine welcomed this offer. European experts are ready to provide the necessary assistance.
The statement emphasized that energy security for all European citizens is a priority, and that EU leaders will continue working with relevant parties to determine alternative pipeline routes. These steps aim to secure crude oil flows to Central and Eastern European countries from non-Russian sources.
