Fletcher: We lower our flags and remember our friends and colleagues
New York, August 19 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher lowered flags to half-mast around the world in memory of more than 1,000 humanitarian workers who have lost their lives over the past three years.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher said in a statement marking World Humanitarian Day that aid workers who lost their lives are being remembered and that those responsible must be held accountable.
Fletcher said, “We lower our flags. We remember our friends and colleagues. We demand accountability from those who killed them.”
Fletcher noted that more than 1,000 aid workers have been killed over the past three years.
