Group close to Orban buys the country's most-read newspaper
Budapest, November 5 (Hibya) – The media group Indamedia, known for its closeness to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, has acquired the popular tabloid Blikk.
According to The Guardian, Indamedia announced on Friday that it had acquired Blikk, as well as Glamour magazine and several digital publications, from the Swiss Ringier group.
The newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Ivan Zsolt Nagy, announced that he was stepping down by mutual agreement with the new owners. However, some staff members noted that independent media outlets in the country are increasingly disappearing and described this situation as “silent pressure.”
The acquisition of Blikk has once again raised concerns about media freedom in Hungary ahead of the upcoming elections.
