Guterres: Africa is paying the price of the climate crisis
New York, February 15 (Hibya) – United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the people of Africa did not cause the climate crisis, yet they are paying the heaviest price.
UN Secretary-General Guterres stated that the people of Africa are among those most affected by the climate crisis.
Guterres noted that people across the continent are struggling with disasters such as droughts, floods, hunger, and extreme heat, while not receiving sufficient support for the transition to clean energy and adaptation efforts: “The people of Africa did not cause the climate crisis. Yet they are paying the highest price – with droughts, floods, hunger, and deadly heat. This climate injustice is clear and undeniable.”
