Leyen: EU-Mercosur Agreement has begun to enter into force
Brussels, May 1 (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU-Mercosur agreement has provisionally entered into force and that its economic effects will gradually become visible.
European Commission President Leyen announced that the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur countries has begun to be applied provisionally.
In her statement, von der Leyen said that the economic effects of the agreement have started to be reflected and stated:
“The benefits are already real and visible. Tariffs are beginning to fall. Companies are gaining access to new markets. Investors have the predictability they need.”
Drawing attention to the provisional implementation process of the agreement, von der Leyen emphasized that this period is important for observing concrete effects:
“Provisional application will demonstrate the tangible benefits of the agreement and show how legitimate sensitivities are addressed.”
The President of the European Commission also stressed that a comprehensive assessment will be presented to the European Parliament and member states and that democratic oversight mechanisms will be put into operation.
