European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that she had a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the G20 summit.
Von der Leyen emphasized that Turkey is an important partner for Europe, stating: "It continues to play an important role in managing migration along the Eastern Mediterranean route." Sharing details of the meeting, von der Leyen said:
"We also discussed the progress of our bilateral relations since the December summit."
Finally, von der Leyen congratulated Turkey on hosting the COP next year, saying: "We support you in this effort to ensure its success."
