Musk reportedly asked Trump to reconsider tariffs
Washington, April 8 (Hibya) – Tech billionaire and head of the U.S. Government Efficiency Department (DOGE), Elon Musk, has reportedly asked U.S. President Donald Trump to reconsider the tariffs imposed on imports from various countries.
According to a report by the Washington Post citing two sources, “Over the weekend, Elon Musk posted a message on social media criticizing White House trade advisor Peter Navarro over Trump’s aggressive tariff plan… and then reached out to Trump personally.”
According to the report, Musk’s request has not yet been successful.
CNBC reported that Trump’s tariff announcement last week wiped $2.5 trillion from the U.S. stock market and cost Tesla CEO Musk $30.9 billion in net worth.
Musk, the richest person in the world, is one of Trump’s key advisors and heads the department working to cut government spending and restructure the federal bureaucracy.
Meanwhile, Navarro accused Musk of prioritizing Tesla’s profits over national policy and noted that the company’s supply chain is dependent on countries such as China, Mexico, and Japan.
A 10% “base” tariff on imports from around the world went into effect on Saturday. Starting tomorrow, several countries will face higher tariffs — 34% for Chinese goods and 20% for EU products.
