Czech President Petr Pavel stated that Mauritania is a key African partner for his country.

Pavel noted that the first presidential-level visit between the two countries is seen as a strong indication of interest in strengthening cooperation, and added:

"Both Africa and Europe face complex and shared challenges. Migration, terrorism, climate change, and security threats are all interconnected. Mauritania's deepening cooperation with the Czech Republic, the European Union, and NATO contributes to the promotion of stability not only on the African continent, but throughout Europe as well."
