Prevot condemns sanctions against the ICC
Brussels, August 20 (Hibya) - Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot condemned sanctions targeting the International Criminal Court and its staff, saying the measures undermine the court's independence.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot announced that they condemn all sanctions targeting the International Criminal Court (ICC), its officials and individuals cooperating with the court.
Prevot said the measures undermine the court's independence and impartiality and weaken the global fight against impunity.
Emphasizing that the ICC must be free to carry out its mandate without intimidation or political pressure, Prevot said this is not about defending national sovereignty.
Prevot said Belgium will stand with victims seeking justice and will continue to show solidarity with court staff and civil society organizations working to advance accountability. He also stated that they will continue their efforts to activate the Blocking Statute.
