Qatar condemns Israel’s closure of 6 UNRWA schools
Doha, April 12 (Hibya) – Qatar strongly condemned Israel’s decision to close six schools affiliated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem.
In a statement issued by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision by Israeli occupation authorities to shut down six UNRWA schools in East Jerusalem was strongly condemned.
The statement said that depriving children of education constitutes a new crime in the ongoing series of Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, and included the following:
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that the right to education is a fundamental right guaranteed by international human rights laws and conventions, and reiterates Qatar’s categorical rejection of the politicization of education and of Israeli efforts aimed at terminating or weakening UNRWA’s role.”
