Silva: We took an important step in strengthening democratic relations with the US
Brazil, May 8 (Hibya) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated following his meetings in Washington, D.C. that an important step had been taken toward strengthening the historic and democratic relations between Brazil and the United States.
Lula da Silva described his meeting with US President Donald Trump as “very important,” emphasizing that Brazil is open to cooperation across a broad range of areas, from trade to security issues.
The Brazilian leader stated that they are ready to negotiate with every country on topics such as tariffs, foreign trade, critical minerals, combating organized crime, and drug and arms trafficking. Lula said his country has no “veto or prohibition approach” on any issue and follows a foreign policy open to dialogue.
However, Lula da Silva noted that there are two fundamental principles for Brazil that are non-negotiable: democracy and sovereignty.
