Visa and readmission agreements signed between Belgium and Algeria
Brussels, April 1 (Hibya) - Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf at Egmont Palace and signed agreements between the two countries on visa exemption and the readmission of illegal migrants.
Belgian Foreign Minister Prevot received his Algerian counterpart Attaf at Egmont Palace. As part of the meeting, the two countries signed two separate agreements on the readmission of illegal migrants and visa exemption.
In his statement, Prevot said that people are at the heart of relations between Belgium and Algeria, stating: “More than 30 thousand citizens of Algerian origin living in Belgium contribute to companies, hospitals, universities, and cultural centers in the country. In addition, hundreds of Algerian patients are treated in Brussels every year under temporary agreements.”
Cooperation between Belgium and Algeria also continues in the fields of energy, logistics, construction, and port operations. Prevot emphasized that the energy partnership between the two countries dates back nearly forty years and that this partnership should be strengthened under the current conditions in the Middle East.
It was also reported during the meeting that work would continue in the areas of judicial and police cooperation. Prevot stated that the cooperation “does not remain only in words, but produces concrete results.”
