Cassis: Switzerland discussed sports diplomacy with Sahel countries
Bern, September 9 (Hibya) – Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis discussed the role of sport in diplomacy and dialogue with representatives of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali, which make up the Confederation of Sahel States, as well as Senegal.

In a social media post, Cassis said they exchanged views on sport’s ability to maintain channels of dialogue, build trust and preserve opportunities for contact during periods when political relations become difficult.
Stating that Switzerland wants to use this potential for peace, “Good Offices” and rapprochement between states, Cassis said efforts to make use of sports diplomacy in these areas are continuing.
The Swiss Federal Council also announced that Cassis’s meeting with high-level representatives of the Confederation of Sahel States and Senegal addressed the use of sport as a tool for trust, diplomacy and peace.
