CENTCOM: Action taken against IRGC mine-laying elements in the Strait of Hormuz
Washington, August 31 (Hibya) - The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that U.S. forces carried out a limited and precise intervention against mine-laying elements affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that posed an imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM issued a statement regarding developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM said the claim that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had characterized U.S. strikes aimed at preventing the IRGC from laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz as an "act of aggression" was false.
The statement said U.S. forces carried out a limited and precise intervention against IRGC-affiliated mine-laying elements that posed an imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM said the intervention was carried out to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping and the free flow of global trade.
