Costa: The European Union must remain more united than ever
Brussels, September 9 (Hibya) - European Council President António Costa said after his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin that Europe is facing a new geopolitical reality, emphasizing the importance of the European Union remaining united.
Costa said in a post on his social media account that he had held a productive meeting with Merz in Berlin as part of his tour of European capitals.
Stating that there are attempts to divide and intimidate Europe, Costa said the European Union continues to remain united.
Costa said work must be accelerated toward a safer, more prosperous and more competitive Europe, noting that a new approach is needed for the European Union's next long-term budget.
Calling for more efficient use of resources and a results-oriented structure in the new budget, Costa said there is a need for a budget that strengthens confidence in Europe's economy and security while addressing citizens' concerns and expectations.
