An explosion occurred at a temporary weapons and war remnants depot near the city of Seremda in the Idlib countryside of northern Syria. The Syrian Ministry of Defense said 14 ministry personnel were killed in the incident and more than 10 people were injured.

According to a statement from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, the explosion occurred on Wednesday, September 9, near the city of Seremda at a depot where weapons and war remnants were temporarily collected before being transferred elsewhere.

Following the explosion, the ministry’s specialized units, in coordination with the relevant authorities, began work to secure the scene and address the effects of the blast.

The ministry said specialized teams were continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the incident and the circumstances in which it occurred.

According to data from the Idlib Health Directorate, 14 people were killed and 11 were injured in the explosion. It was reported that the number of fatalities and injuries was not final and that investigations were continuing.

Civil defense and other relevant teams were also reported to be continuing their work in the area, with measures taken to secure the blast site and prevent possible additional hazards.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense assumed responsibility for the incident in its statement.

The ministry extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
