Kallas: The multi-religious character of Jerusalem must be preserved
Brussels, March 29 (Hibya) - European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that the Israeli police’s decision to block the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre constitutes a violation of religious freedom and laws protecting holy sites.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas made a statement regarding restrictions on the status of holy sites in Jerusalem and freedom of belief.
Drawing attention to the historical and social fabric of Jerusalem, Kallas said: “The decision of the Israeli police constitutes a violation of religious freedom and long-standing laws protecting holy sites.”
Emphasizing the importance of freedom of worship, Kallas stated: “Freedom of worship in Jerusalem must be fully guaranteed for all religions without exception.”
Kallas concluded her statement by saying: “The multi-religious character of Jerusalem must be preserved.”
