Kos: Democratic systems are facing increasing pressure
Brussels, 16 June (Hibya) - European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos addressed the protection of democratic institutions and the fight against disinformation in a meeting with EU and candidate country ministers.
The European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos held a meeting with ministers from EU member states and candidate countries under the “European Democracy Shield” initiative.
Kos noted that democratic systems are increasingly facing pressure, highlighting disinformation, pressure on institutions, attacks on free media, and attempts to divide societies.
The meeting emphasized that the EU Democracy Shield initiative provides an important platform for cooperation among countries.
Kos also expressed satisfaction with working alongside EU Justice Commissioner Michael McGrath and stressed the importance of including enlargement partners in the process.
Opportunities for cooperation through the European Centre for Democratic Resilience were also discussed.
