Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her sorrow over Zanardi’s loss in her statement.

Referring to Zanardi’s character and achievements, Meloni said: “Italy has lost a great champion and an extraordinary person; someone who had the ability to turn every challenge in life into a lesson in courage, strength and dignity.”

Speaking about his contribution to people, Meloni said: “Alex Zanardi was able to continue on his path time and again and overcame even the toughest challenges with determination, clarity and unusual fortitude. With his sporting achievements, exemplary conduct and humanity, he gave us all much more than a victory: he gave us hope, pride and the strength never to give up.”

Offering condolences on behalf of the government, Prime Minister Meloni said: “On my own behalf and on behalf of the Government, I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to his family and to everyone who loved him. Thank you for everything, Alex.”
