Palestine: Political interventions withdrawn
Jerusalem, April 30 (Hibya) - The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the removal of strict provisions on Palestinian funding from the European Parliament’s 2024 EU discharge report.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the vote held during the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg regarding the EU’s 2024 discharge report.
The statement said that the removal of strict provisions proposed by some political groups preserved the original report and marked an important step against the politicization of funding processes for Palestine.
The ministry described the development as a “significant achievement” for Palestinian diplomacy, noting that it resulted from intensive engagement with Members of the European Parliament and rapporteurs.
It also emphasized the importance of transparent use of EU funds provided through the PEGASE mechanism, particularly for salaries, social assistance, and healthcare payments.
The statement also positively assessed education reforms and cooperation with the European Commission, noting that efforts to align Palestine’s education system with international standards are ongoing.
Regarding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees UNRWA, it stressed the critical importance of supporting the agency, ensuring its funding, and keeping it free from political disputes.
The Palestinian side called on EU institutions to strengthen cooperation with Palestine and continue supporting its development process.
