New York, February 27 (Hibya) - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk stated that the increasing violence, civilian deaths, and humanitarian crisis in South Sudan have reached a dangerous point and called for an immediate ceasefire.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Türk, in his statement regarding the human rights situation in South Sudan, said the country is at a dangerous point.
Türk highlighted that over the past three months, both government and opposition forces have targeted residential areas in Upper Nile, Jonglei, Unity, Central Equatoria, Western Bahr el Ghazal, Western Equatoria, and Warrap states. He said, "In North Jonglei, more than 280,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, schools, and health facilities due to bombardment. The situation worsened in January.
