Erdoğan and Pezeshkian hold phone call
Ankara, March 9 (Hibya) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed regional tensions in a phone call, emphasizing their opposition to unlawful interventions and the targeting of brotherly countries.
According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications, President Erdoğan held a phone conversation with Iranian President Pezeshkian at the request of the other side.
During the call, Erdoğan stated that there is a need to open the door for diplomacy and that Türkiye is making efforts in this direction. The President emphasized that unlawful interventions against Iran and the targeting of brotherly countries in the region are unacceptable, stressing that such actions would not benefit any country and should be brought to an end.
Erdoğan said that Türkiye is negatively affected by conflicts to which it is not a party, that violations of its airspace are unacceptable and that all necessary measures will be taken. He also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, especially the children who were killed in the attack on a school in Manbij.
Erdoğan conveyed his condolences to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and expressed hope that the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader would contribute to peace in the region. Pezeshkian, for his part, stated that the missiles that entered Turkish airspace did not originate from Iran and that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out.
