Qatar attends EU-GCC Summit
Doha, March 10 (Hibya) – Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani condemned the increasing attacks in the region and emphasized Qatar’s determination to protect its territory and people.
Qatar participated in the virtual summit attended by leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, regional states and the European Union (EU). The summit addressed the growing military situation in the region and its effects on regional and international security.
Leading the Qatari delegation, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani strongly condemned the ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting Qatari territory. “These attacks constitute a clear violation of our national sovereignty, a direct threat to our security and an unacceptable escalation that endangers the stability of the region,” he said.
Sheikh Mohammed stated that thanks to the effective and rapid response of the Qatari Armed Forces, the impact of the attacks was limited and the country’s security was preserved. He emphasized that Qatar is fully prepared to protect its territory, its people and its critical infrastructure and that cooperation with partners will continue to ensure regional stability.
Qatar also condemned attacks targeting the sovereign territories of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Cyprus, and declared full solidarity with these countries.
Sheikh Mohammed pointed out that a statement issued at the summit called for de-escalation in the region and for the protection of energy security and maritime transport, emphasizing that the current situation threatens not only Qatar but also the security of the entire region and global energy markets.
The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister stated that ensuring stability in the region is a shared responsibility and that preserving international peace is a common duty, expressing Qatar’s determination to continue cooperation with all regional and international partners, including the EU.
At the end of the summit, Sheikh Mohammed thanked the EU for its defense support to the Gulf region and expressed hope for stronger cooperation in the future.
