Meeting held between Aşıkbayev and UN Rapporteur Deva
Astana, May 6 (Hibya) – First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerjan Aşıkbayev met with United Nations Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development Surya Deva and provided information on reforms in the country.
First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerjan Aşıkbayev met with United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development Surya Deva. It was reported that the visit was carried out at Kazakhstan’s invitation to examine the country’s practices in the field of the right to development.
During the meeting, Aşıkbayev provided information on political reforms carried out under the leadership of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In this context, key topics included the new constitution adopted on March 15, 2026, modernization of public administration, strengthening the role of the Constitutional Court, improving human rights protection mechanisms, and increasing citizens’ participation in decision-making processes. Improvements in social policies and stronger support for vulnerable groups were also discussed.
UN Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development Surya Deva positively assessed the reforms carried out in Kazakhstan, particularly in terms of strengthening the human rights protection system. The meeting also addressed the country’s role in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as its regional and global initiatives.
The parties reiterated their commitment to maintaining open and constructive dialogue in the field of human rights and supporting the right to development as an important element of inclusive and sustainable growth.
It was also recalled that UN Human Rights Council special rapporteurs are independent human rights experts working on specific countries or themes, carrying out their duties in their individual capacities and reporting their findings to UN bodies.
