Sa’ar: Prosecution over Jewish religious practices is unacceptable
Tel Aviv, May 6 (Hibya) - Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar reacted to the indictment prepared against three mohels in Belgium, arguing that it amounts to targeting Jewish religious practices through criminal proceedings.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar reacted to the indictment prepared against three mohels who were arrested last year in the Belgian city of Antwerp.
Sa’ar argued that with this step, Belgium has joined Ireland among the countries that subject Jews to criminal proceedings because of their religious practices, saying this creates a “shameful picture”.
In his statement, Sa’ar emphasized that the practice of Brit Milah, which holds an important place in Jewish tradition, is one of the cornerstones of the Jewish faith, recalling that legal frameworks exist in Europe and many countries around the world to facilitate this religious practice.
Calling on the Belgian government, Sa’ar said that “immediate action must be taken and a solution to the problem must be found”.
