Petro: We prevented the deaths of 7,770 children under the age of 5
Bogotá, 22 February (Hibya) - Colombian President Gustavo Petro shared data on infant mortality rates in the country, arguing that thanks to preventive health policies implemented, child deaths have decreased compared to previous governments.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro made a statement about child health and the government’s health policies through the so-called “Kevin case.”
Comparing the data with previous periods, Petro said, “Although the Kevin case is under investigation, the data on infant mortality rates are quite striking. Compared to all previous governments, we have prevented the deaths of 7,770 children under the age of 5.”
Referring to former administrations, Petro stated, “The worst was the episode in which Mauricio Cardenas took part. Thanks to the preventive health system, the number of children alive today is greater than the total reduction in mortality rates since Uribe’s second term.”
