567 suspects detained in cybercrime operations
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 567 suspects were detained in operations conducted across 37 provinces targeting crimes such as “online child pornography and abuse, illegal betting, and qualified fraud.”
In a statement on social media, Yerlikaya said that out of the suspects apprehended during the ten-day-long operations, 209 were arrested, 112 were placed under judicial control, and proceedings for the others are ongoing.
He noted that the suspects were found to possess child pornography materials, organize illegal gambling and betting, facilitate unlawful money transfers, and advertise these activities.
Additionally, some suspects illegally profited by accessing citizens’ mobile banking accounts and committing fraud under the guise of “low-interest loans,” “investment consultancy,” “visa applications,” and “car rentals.”
Under the instruction of public prosecutors, the operations were carried out in coordination with the General Directorate of Security’s Cybercrime Department and MASAK, involving simultaneous raids in several provinces including Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Istanbul, Izmir, Konya, Gaziantep, and Kayseri.
Yerlikaya congratulated the police officers involved in the operations for their efforts.
