Sanchez: This situation must never happen again
Madrid, April 29 (Hibya) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on private electricity companies to take responsibility and cooperate to ensure system security after a nationwide 22-hour power outage.
Sanchez held an emergency meeting at La Moncloa with executives from companies such as Iberdrola, Endesa, Naturgy, Acciona Energía, and EDP.
Following the meeting, Sanchez stated that the causes of the power outage remain unclear, but major structural changes will be made to prevent such an event from recurring. He rejected claims that the outage was caused by the shutdown of five nuclear reactors by Red Electrica, noting that the decision was made at the companies’ own initiative.
"We must make the necessary improvements to guarantee the supply and future competitiveness of our system," Sanchez said.
